There is big relief in the Hindi film industry after Salman Khan was granted bail by the Bombay High Court after being convicted in a hit and run case that killed a person sleeping on the pavement in 2002.
Over Rs.200 crore (US$30 million) has been riding on the actor in different film projects. He has two films on the floors and has been signed up for another, Shuddhi, slated for release in 2016. “Salman has completed two projects—Prem Ratan Dhan Payo directed by Sooraj Barjatya and Bajrangi Bhaijaan directed by Kabir Khan and are due for release in 2015. “The amount riding on these projects would be anywhere between Rs.175 and Rs.200 crore,” noted Komal Nahta, a trade analyst.
Amod Mehra, another trade analyst, said Khan has committed to star in four other films, including Dabangg 3 and No Entry Mein Entry, in basic stages. The 49-year-old actor also endorses many brands, including Thums Up, Detergent Wheel, P.N. Gadgil Jewellers and Astral Pipes. He also hosts Bigg Boss, the popular reality show on the Colors channel every year. Khan’s brand endorsements are worth Rs.45 crore.
