Samshék—the tech-rich fashion retail venture (samshek.com) launched in the United States by siblings Samiksha Bajaj and Abhishek Bajaj is expanding in India and other parts of the world.

The fashion retail brand is noted for pioneering 3D technology in the fashion business and also operates online. 

In an interview, co-founder Samiksha Bajaj speaks to Business Views Editor G. Kalyan Kumar and outlines the venture’s growth plans and strategies.

Can you please explain how Samshek is unique in fashion retailing? 

Samshek fuses fashion and technology to deliver all types of European western outfits for women including corporate shirts, dresses, tops, jumpsuits from casuals to evening wear. 

The focus is on the right size, quality, and sustainability. Our unique selling proposition or USP is digital customization so that the customer gets the right fit and enjoys the best ready-to-wear clothes. 

Can you please throw more light on how the concept of 3D scanning works with your potential customers?

The in-store measurements of customers are taken by a 3D body scanner. It extracts 110 measurements in 5 seconds. The person has to stand in front of the device holding the rails attached to it while wearing a bodysuit, within 5 seconds it scans the body and the measurements are displayed on the app. This technology is a privilege for the customer to design their own clothes in the most unique manner. 

How does Samshek practice its global brand approach in the operations? 

Our business model has global participation and scale. We have designers from Europe while production happens in India. The audience is spread worldwide including India, the US, and the UK. By basing production in India we have leveraged domestic strengths such as faster access to raw materials, IT services, labor supply, and better turnaround time. 

Please tell more about your Indian store in Pune and the expansion strategy via franchising and diversifications?

Our India store is in Pune at the Seasons Mall. For expansion in India and other centers, we have partnered with Nair Ventures in Mumbai to select the best franchise partners. The franchisee will have to invest more at the store’s front end and can break even very fast, less than a year, as there is a huge demand waiting to be unlocked. One likely diversification could be into custom made Men’s apparel. 

How online shoppers are able to choose the right fits from your brand?

Our user-friendly website (SAMSHEK Dotcom) ensures a customer can keep clicking until she finds the perfect fit from a vast collection of outfits, ranging from casuals, evening dress, tops, skirts and shorts. 

Why Samshek is considered more dependable for larger sizes compared to other general retail and boutique stores?

In general fashion retail stores, most readymades including party wear tops are at the standard retail sizing of XS-XXL. 

At Samshek, the retail size surpasses the limits of standard size. It goes beyond XS and up to 9XL. We have solutions for all kinds of customers including plus sizes that usually constrain the choice of the right size.  

Why is that Samshek wanted technology to play a bigger role in fashion retailing?

There is a perception that the fashion industry lags in technology adoption. We have found technology can make processes faster and hike customer satisfaction. 

In what way Samshek is different from other fashion brands?

Samshek caters to the women audience through innovative technology and adds fully customized garment products to enhance the customer experience. Samshek seeks excellence in offering the right clothing suiting a woman’s body in terms of size, shape, mood, character, style, and temperament.

Given faster delivery is also vital can you explain how you manage better turnaround time?

As for delivery, all custom-made orders coming from the stores are delivered within 48 hours. Online orders are delivered within 5 days including India, the U.K, and the U.S.A.

How Samshek has eliminated the traditional risks in fashion retailing in terms of inventory and trends?

Our business model has tried to be immune from the perils of a huge inventory and unsold stock that often ruins fashion retailers causing massive business loss.
