The Samsung Galaxy F62 launched in February 2021 is the latest mid-range offering. It is now available in offline retail shops as well. Earlier it had supply only through Flipkart, Reliance Digital, and the company's e-store.
In the Indian market, Samsung Galaxy F62 is available in two variants: 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for Rs. 23,999 ($350) and 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for Rs. 25,999.
Highlights
The core highlights of the Samsung Galaxy F62 include an Exynos 9825 chipset, a Super AMOLED+ screen, quad rear cameras, and a 7,000mAh battery. They come in three colours--Laser Blue, Laser Black, and Laser Green, and the internal storage is expandable thanks to a microSD card slot in the dual-SIM tray.
The new mid-range smartphone is the second model in the recently introduced F series. The processing power of this phone is in marketing focus as in the previous-generation flagship SoC used in the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+.
The Galaxy F62 powerful processor apart, the AMOLED display, good cameras, a massive 7000mAh battery are positive for a starting price of Rs. 23,999.
Good Looks and Top Specs
The Galaxy F62 is impressed with its looks. Although the back and frame are built from plastic it gives a sturdy look. The dimensions are akin to those of the Samsung Galaxy M51. This one is a thick phone at 9.5mm, and heavier than the Galaxy M51 weighing 218g. The button placement and port layout are similar. A side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a headphone jack beside the USB Type-C port at the bottom is available. The Samsung Galaxy F62 uses a capacitive fingerprint sensor rather than an in-display sensor.
It seems Samsung is determined to catch-up with Realme and Xiaomi, using these premium SoCs in mid-range phones. System-on-a-Chip (SoC) is the equivalent of a computer motherboard, including the main processor, graphics processor and memory on a single chip.
The display specifications are more or less identical to those of the Galaxy M51 too in terms of a 6.7-inch, full-HD+ Super AMOLED Plus panel with a 60Hz refresh rate.
The hole-punch cutout in the top-centre of the display offers endless possibilities for using creative wallpapers.
The Exynos 9825 SoC easily handles a QHD+ resolution display and 4K 60fps video recording. The phone has dual-band Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5, NFC for Samsung Pay, and the standard suite of sensors and GPS for navigation. The Galaxy F62 is a 4G-only phone as 5G is not yet a reality in India.
Latest Android skin
The Samsung Galaxy F62 runs the company's latest Android skin called One UI (3.1), based on Android 11 without having to wait for an update. There is a mix of Samsung and Google apps preloaded, along with others such as Netflix. The interface is clean.
The vivid display and really strong battery life are two things that stand out. The AMOLED panels are the best in the industry and on the Galaxy F62, there are good brightness and very good colour saturation.
For the Samsung Galaxy F62, the 7,000mAh battery comes with a USB Type-C 25W fast charger as well.
Good user experience
The Galaxy F62 performs super in battery life and lasts more than a day even with rigorous usage.
The Exynos 9825 SoC in the Samsung Galaxy F62 is excellent for playing games. Samsung's latest Android skin coupled with the powerful SoC makes for a smooth user experience. Plugins can be installed in the One UI Game Launcher for temperature and frame rate stats in games, plus the ability to block notifications with Priority Mode.
There is no heating issue after playing 3D games. The single speaker is loud but headphones are suggested since the Dolby Atmos enhancement sounds extra good, for wired and wireless headphones. The good viewing angles make the Samsung Galaxy F62 great for media consumption. Videos look good and the phone can stream HDR videos off YouTube too.
The cameras on the Samsung Galaxy F62 are good for daylight shooting, but low light can be a little tricky. At the back, there is a 64-megapixel primary camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and two 5-megapixel cameras for depth sensing and macro shots. The 32-megapixel selfie camera features 480fps slow-motion recording on the Galaxy F62.
Videos shot at 4K with the primary and ultra-wide cameras have good image quality. Enabling Super Steady mode provides the best stabilisation.
The front camera captures good-looking selfies with options to apply beauty filters; while 4K selfie videos look decent. Overall, Samsung Galaxy F62 is well packaged dimming the appeal of the Galaxy M51 as the few extra bucks for Galaxy F62 will deliver a much faster SoC and Android 11 and other features loaded in the Galaxy M51.
